Making vlc my default player

Cant seem to get my head round making vlc player my default player,any ideas ....rhurbarb thanks

First of all, you need to tell us your OS, otherwise we won't be able to help you. Additionally, search the forum. This topic was discussed quite often both for Mac OS X and Windows.
