RC question

Hello,
I am trying control VLC by RC, but I am lost ...

Lets say:

on the first PC(192.168.1)?
vlc -I rc --rc-host 192.168.1:23

on the other PC (192.168.2)?
nc 192.168.1 23 (Netcat)

... but it does not work, am I using wrong syntax?

ip addresses usualy have four numbers. You should try 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2

Ok, anyway, I suppose I am not doing sth right...

nc 192.168.0.1 23 or putty

I am not able connect to 192.168.0.1:23
...but I do not see anything.

What should I see? I suppose rc interface.

Am I right?

BTW: Can I control that the rc is on on port 23?

On Windows, I would launch with:
--extraintf="rc" --rc-host="192.168.2.50:23" --rc-quiet

On *nix, I believe you would get rid of the "=" signs, and skip the tird parameter (it's a Windows-specific thing)

I would then open up my telnet-like program (Windows' built-in telnet works), and do a connect to 192.168.2.50 port 23 (yes, you can change the port
