Visual noise around the text when using .srt subtitles

Visual noise around the text when using .srt subtitles

When trying to play any video (independently of the video codec used) with the .srt subtitles, I'm getting two horizontal lines of visual noise below and above the subtitles text. This is how it looks:

I looked for the solution in this forum, shuffled settings that seemed relevant to no avail. Any advice on that?

OS: Mac OS X 10.6.3
VLC: 0.9.9a Grishenko
