Digital Signage: Is VLC usefull?

Postby digital2b » 11 Mar 2010 17:16

I'm trying to build a digital signage solution by VLC.

I've a PC-master that sends (by internet or by lan) movie files to the slaves (to a specific folder "playlist").
Slaves have to play (loop) the content of the folder "playlist".

MASTER -----> (/playlist) SLAVE1 -> MONITOR 63"
|--------------> (/playlist) SLAVE2 -> MONITOR 63"

How to implement this by VLC?

I tried to add to the playlist a folder, but VLC doesn't update the playlist if I add/remove a file from that folder.

(Is there a solution to use it on a webpage, for example adding an RSS reader under the video?)

Thanks in advance
for you help

There is no way for VLC to automatically update a directory content from within the playlist. It would quite painful to add with the current playlist and file format plugin architectures.

In later versions, we could add this as a service discovery, but nobody has implemented it yet.
