reconnect forever

Postby rcarty » 13 Feb 2010 00:55

I'm trying to get VLC to keep trying to reconnect forever if the connection to the audio stream is broken, for example if the Internet connection is temporarily lost. What I want is for the audio to just start playing again when it has reconnected. The command line FAQ lists a --http-reconnect but since this is a mms stream it seems to make no difference. There is no --mms-reconnect command. Is there some other command I can use that would give me this function?

--loop.

Automatic reconnection is a very bad idea from network engineering perspective. Don't run to me for sympathy if you break your network.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. --loop doesn't seem to work, VLC doesn't start and no error screen. --repeat does work though.

I agree this could load a network. I suppose one could do some tests to see just how much of a load that is, and perhaps compare it to AppleTalk and Microsoft NetBIOS or even a normal FTP operation.
