Streaming from Windows to Ubuntu

Postby tommertron » 14 Dec 2009 02:45

I am trying to stream audio from my Windows machine to my Ubuntu machine. (But I have same issues streaming from Ubuntu to Windows).

I have tried RTP, using the address 239.255.100.100, and entering that address on the client VLC, but it will not play.

I have also tried HTTP, entering the server VLC's IP address when setting up the stream, and then that address in the client VLC. It will not play either.

In both cases, I have enabled SAP announcements, and given it a name, and it does not show up in the SAP services in the playlist when I enable SAP discovery.

I have also tried turning the Windows firewall off, and still have no luck.

Could this be a router configuration issue?

It can be a lot of things. Network problems, firewall on the Linux side, incompatible codecs combination or user error.
