no audio when streaming from dreambox on certain channels

Postby jippiejajee » 28 Dec 2004 21:14

I am using videolan to stream from my drambox 7000s to PC. Video is there but on channels having only one (dutch) audi track there is no audio. On other channels with multiple audio track the first one plays ok but second audio track is also silent.
DreamTV is playing these channels without a problem, so with sound. Seems a videolan problem. tried all kind of settings in audio output menus but until now no luck.
Would appreciate if somebody knows how to solve this.

It works with the Hydra image on the dreambox.If you have audio problems (because of a different APID from VPID) try adding PCRPID in the string.I works allways.

@guest

You are the greatest !!!! It solved the problem and yes now the sound is there on these channels, maybe the videolan team can incorporate this tip in their manual .

Again many thanks

best regards, Jippie

Dear VLC team,
can you please explain why PCRID must be added ? (In most case this number is same for all streams).

Furthermore think it would be useful if you added to your manuals how to start network stream and which parameters to be added. Can not find that in the current manual
For the rest a great product. Iam not compalining, on the contrary just want to made some suggestion to avoid that others loose much time to find a solution to a frequently mentioned problem

(I am using VLC 0.8.1 on windows XP pro SP1 and dreambox 7000-s)
regards, Jippie

Hi Solved,

Hello,

I'm assuming you had no sound with Dutch Channels.. When you use the just release hydra Poseidon image it should be working fine !!! It was a problem of Dreambox and not the VLC client.

Regards Tom

yes, what the hydry did was adding PCRID when hitting the VPID link (just save the video.pls file to disc and open it it notepad, you will see that PCRID is added now...)

Anyhow thanks for your reply, much appreciated

I'm working also with the Hydra Poseidon and VLC 0.8.1. I get perfect sound on the normal MPEG2 audio channels, but if I select in the toolbar the AC3 stream as audio source, then only on a few stations I get realy AC3 sound. Ofcourse I'm using a AC3 AMP. On Prosieben and SAT1 it works fine, but on ZDF or EURO1080/HD1 it doesn't. If you select this audio 2 track, then the AUDIO device option is gone from the tool bar. If you have a look in the message screen, then you will see the following on :

main debug: stream periodicity changed from P[2] to P[3]
main debug: decoded 105/105 pictures
main debug: control type=17
main debug: looking for decoder module

If I do the same but now on Prosieben you see:

main debug: found a filter for the whole conversion
main debug: filter(s) 'fl32'->'fl32' 52800 Hz->48000 Hz Stereo->Stereo

As you can see, here the A52 is killing in. In this test, I didn't select the A52 to SPDIF option. I just get the AC3 sound on my normal speakers. But with ZDF you hear nothing.

Can someone explain why this happens?

I'm having problems with listening to radio stations using VLC. the problems only exist in the Dutch radio channels. Why? What can I do to solve it? Sample link:
http://10.10.10.120:31338/e7
Where would adding PCRID help?

Some people say this is because the Dutch radio stations stream at variable bit rate... Winamp plays the file, but with hickups, WMP and others don't play anything (like vlc)
