Bottom of the screen flickers in full screen mode

Hey, guys. When I change to full screen mode, as usual, the controls show up at the bottom of the screen. After a few seconds they disappear, however, then they flicker on and off like the controls are still there. It's just like tan boxes flickering where the controls would be every half second or so. How can I get this to stop? It's really annoying to try and watch anything with this flickering going on at the bottom of my screen.

mine too flickers.
vlc 1.0.3
win XP sp2

when in full screen, the controls are flashing at about 2/3 from the top of the screen.
i can even use them, e.g. by dragging the progress bar.

the strange thing is that it happens only 70% of the time.
i don't know what's the pattern, but it seems to be related to retrieving/getting/stealing/losing focus in a certain way.
