using VLC with a foot pedal

Postby mwurzenberger » 14 Oct 2009 03:51

I downloaded and am using the VLC Media Player Foot Pedal Utility 2009.09. This was working great until today, when in the middle of working, the foot pedal was no longer recognized. An uninstall and reinstall of VLC and the Foot Pedal Utility didn't fix the problem, although the status of the foot pedal is "connected". The foot pedal works with Express Scribe, so the foot pedal itself is working. Anyone else had this issue or have a suggestion how to solve it? Thanks in advance!

I haven't been able to get it to work at all. I have an Infinity foot pedal which is supposed to be universal. It's worked with every other program I've tried. It says the Foot Pedal is connected and the player is running but nothing happens.

What is a Foot Pedal?
A foot pedal is about $60 and it allows you to control the video without physically having to click on the video controls - Fast Foward, Play, Rewind, etc. You can just tap the foot pedal.

Here's a link to one site that sells them. You can see a picture of it there.

VLC makes an accompanying software to the VLC media player that supposedly works with a foot pedal but it doesn't work.

VLC Media Player Foot Pedal allows VLC Media Player to be used as transcription software for transcription of all types of media files with full foot pedal support. To use the program, simply plug in your USB foot pedal, start VLC Media Player, open a supported media file and start transcribing. VLC Foot Pedal permits you to use your USB foot pedal to start, stop, rewind and fast forward while transcribing. Your purchase of VLC Foot Pedal software includes complete documentation and video tutorials showing how to use VLC Media Player and VLC Foot Pedal for transcription of all types of electronic media, including most video and audio file formats as well as CD-ROM and DVD formats.

VLC Media Player and VLC Foot Pedal can be used to transcribe any of the following digital media files.

No "VLC", i.e. the VideoLAN project does not make that software.

That said, are you sure it did not simply break when you updated VLC?

This is from your very own website, isn't it or am I really, really confused? If I am then I apologize but this is where I got this information from:

Okay I think I know what's going on. VideoLan created the VLC player and somebody else created the foot pedal to go with it? And they're allowed to use YOUR icon? Because they're exactly the same and the tutorial says open the VLC Foot Pedal software and then open the VLC Media Player and load your video and the foot player is supposed to run the player but you did not create that specific software?

Did you download the free demo version that dies after 15 days or did you buy the full version.

I have written some transcription software (Linux only) which utilises Vlc and should operate with all known USB foot pedals, Vec Infinity, MicroDia, Olympus etc
Check out
https://sourceforge.net/p/footswitch2/ for the fully fledged version
and
https://sourceforge.net/p/footswitch2basic/
for the no frills version
