scheduled recording of SAP announcments streams

Postby duxis » 25 Oct 2009 07:32

Hello...

my ISP started to stream IPTV in its network. In order to watch this TV I have to start VLC player, activate SAP Announcements option in Services Discovery. Then, I can open playlist and after a short while, playlist is full of all 64 TV and radio stations. I just have to click on the required station in the playlist and I can watch it.

As I am very new to VLC (and don't understand it at all), I'd like to ask, if there is any way to use VLC as scheduling recorder for this IPTV service. I mean to set up VLC to record one station in required time, then other station in some other time... I have googled little bit and found, that there are some possibilities of scheduled recording in VLC (using telnet interface, which looks like nightmare for me), but wasn't able to find anything concerning SAP.

Isn't there any userfriendly plugin allowing this to work similar way like in standalone HDD recorders?

Thanks in advance!

You can get the media location from the playlist item informations (probably "rtp://@2...something" or if your ISP sucks, "udp://@2..."). Assuming your ISP does not change those all the time, you can just configure VLC to record that....

Thank you, I can now identify the stream location at least, it's really rtp protocol. I need some time to test if this address is not changing in time, hopefully not.
I should use this telnet interface method for scheduling now, when I know the location, shouldn't I? Ok, it could work, but it really isn't userfriendly way. No other way? Any miracle plugin?
