VLC Blanks screen

winxp home
3. Your VLC media player version.
1.0.2
4. The hardware you use. Make sure to name all the audio and video hardware in question that might be related to VLC's usage.

ACPI dual processor AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+
1.2TB hard drives
VIA Chrome9 HC IGP
S3 Graphics Driver
2gb memory


1. The exact situation in which the problem occurred. Please describe in as much detail as possible.

Everytime VLC player opens, It blanks my screen to black. It comes back in a while, but has reset video from 32bit to 8bit.

2. Can you always reproduce the problem in a certain way?

Everytime VLC player opens. No other player does this, and I have a lot of players I use.

3. The type of movie you were playing. And whether or not the issue is present on other types of movies.

Don't get to videos. It goes black first

1. disactivate overlay in video preferneces
2. restart vlc
