time slider / skip-fwrd moves video to wrong location (DVD)

Postby Martin01 » 02 Oct 2009 02:56

I have various DVD's where the Timeslider and the skip forward/backward (via right/left keys) does not work correct.

The effect is as follows:
TimeSlider:
If I position the mouse over the slider, the hint shows the correct time. If I click in order to jump to this time, VLC adds between 30% and 50%. (e.g i click to jump to 5:00 Min => I end up jumping to minute 8:30)
The slider will then be in the correct location for this time => that is the slider is NOT at the position I clicked.
- So VLC can not convert the slider pos to a video location (except showing the right hint)
- Vlc can and does convert the video location to the correct slider time

Skip forward /backward: They both move the time forward in big steps. I am not sure about the exact pattern, but the further I am into the movie, the bigger the steps (e.g. trying to skip 30 secs forward, may skip a full minute, if the video was at pos 2:00 minutes, but trying to skip the same 30 secs forward will skip 15 minutes, if the video was 20:00 minutes)

- I have observed this with several Versions of VLC, including the latest (1.02).
- I have VLC only on Windows (32 but Vista), and I do not know if it is an OS related issue, or would happen on other OS too. (but I have no indication that it would be OS related)
- I have found an other time-slider issue here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=61849&p=211003
But that seems to be different, since it relates to files with unknown length (len indicator = "--/--"). The Videos I have show the correct length.

Before someone asks: No I do not thing I can upload them, since it is full DVDs
As for examples, (all DVD are the UK version). There are various Japanese anime DVD (other anime DVD do work):
"Nausicaa Valley of the wind"
"Howls Castle"
but also non Japanese DVD:
"Lions for Lambs"

I have no idea what or where to look for, in order to post more info. Like to find out common properties of all the listed titles.

- I found the following in the "messages" window (when I click the time slider) => however the same message appears for some DVD, where the slider works correct:
main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called
libmpeg2 error: DpbUnlinkPicture called on an invalid picture
libmpeg2 error: DpbUnlinkPicture called on an invalid picture

The media info dialog, shows the codec as "mpgv" in each case (good and bad), and the framerate as 25

It seems that those DVD's feature a second angle. Apparently they are kind of both in the same stream? And if you play it you only see the frames for the selected view? But maybe when you jump, something goes wrong?
