No audio with .DV movie formats

Postby grimgrey » 07 Jan 2004 07:03

Hi.

I'm using FORMAC's "Studio DV" hardware to transfer video from analog sources. As the product's name suggests, it uses "DV" as it's default recording format.

VLC 7.0 fails to play AUDIO for these DV files. Just video. It's BEAUTIFULLY rendered video-- but a silent movie just doesn't cut it.

Audio plays fine for every other format I've tried, (MPEG, Quicktime, etc)

-Can this player be made to fully play my .DV files?
-Is this a setting issue?

(My System)
G4 1.4 Ghz
OSX Panther

This is a known regression in 0.7.0 (works in 0.6.2).
This problem is due to the ffmpeg library which dropped DV audio decoding support from libavcodec.

They did?
Why in heavens name did they do this?
Don't use PMs for support questions.

Well, they moved it to libavformat... which is completely stupid IMHO.

I've found VLC 0.6.2 plays .DV audio out-of-sync with the video.

( captured at 48 Khz / 16 bit / stereo )

The audio is slightly slower, and deeper in pitch than the original.
I thought this was an obvious settings issue, but after an hour of blindly experimenting with the preferences, I'm no closer to syncing the audio.

Can someone suggest the correct settings... or even the correct preference controls I should be adjusting?

This is a bug in our DV demuxer. It assumes 44kHz :(

Hopefully all this will get fixed for 0.7.1.
