VLC can't lock signal on DVB-S card

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

VLC can't lock signal on DVB-S card

Postby errno » 09 Jan 2005 16:50

So I have Technotrend SkyStar1 DVB-S card.
I want to watch programs with VLC 0.8.0, when I'm doing:

Code: Select all

vlc --color dvb: --dvb-adapter 0 --dvb-frequency 11823000 --dvb-srate 28000000 --program 4001 --sout udp:192.168.180.2
and it's says next:

Code: Select all

[00000227] dvb access error: ioctl FE_SET_VOLTAGE failed, voltage=1 (-1) Operation not permitted [00000227] dvb access error: DVB-S: tuning failed
Trying --dvb-budget-mode option doesn't change situation.

In this time locking signal with szap and grabing TS with mplayer working, so i think that this isn't hardware or kernel trouble.

Please, help me, tell possible roots of the problem.

P.S. Oh, one more question, how to set polarization with --dvb-something option?

Some docs tells that for control DVB card used I2C, is it true?
And I must enable I2C in kernel configuration?

Thanks, nobody :)
I found the answer later, after posting topic.

With first question I did discover new features.
When I was rebooted server VLC behavior was changed to cycling "has signal <-> has carrier"

Code: Select all

In the next attempt I had situation described above :(
Overheating?
