Problem with subtitles

Postby Kengeki » 20 Jun 2009 16:31

Hi, I am using using VLC to watch some anime, I watch subbed anime so I have subtitles for each inivudual episode. The file format of the videos is .mkv and the format of the subs are .sub. When I start the video, I just drap and drop the .sub to the video and it works, except for one episode. I had a look a the .sub in notepad (They're written in ASCII) and compared them to the others.

The working ones looked like this:

}
{T 00:00:02:85
The Britannian youth, Lelouch, has embarked on two paths.
}
{T 00:00:07:45

And the one that didn't work looked like this:
}
{T 00:00:01:31
In this world, there is malice born from kindness.2LwbKGF35t5ukj0em1frpVuCy3Vpmv2MC7VCu98Z3xzKAUQr9De0ZOj65d4xRLWaz8lxC8NaVZL1U73MWstVG9X9S0aNrG84e8T2PGQHuH2TmDjNlrBaQj96eTS9f
}
{T 00:00:05:05

This gibberish on the end of the subtitles is repeated on all the text and I suspect it is what's causing the problem. Is there a program or easier way to fix this rather than wasting my time getting rid of it myself?

Well, your subs are broken, so, we can't do anything.

I would try to get new subs, but perhaps you can do a "search and replace" with subtitle workshop? Still, there's no telling what that gibberish is. Perhaps it's garbled text in a different character codepage (Japanese in opening karaokes?).
