Player stopped playing discs

I have been busy converting video downloads to DVD and testing them with the VLC media player. Suddenly it stopped working with discs. I get an error code that says "cannot read the discs" and I am trying to play discs that I have played with the player before. Anybody got any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance..
