Playing MP4 Files.

Postby Ashkore » 10 Jun 2009 14:24

Hi there i am currently trying to watch an MP4 file via the VLC Media Player and it just skips, the audio appears to be streaming fine but the picture stays black then just has some of the video all jumpy and scattered. Any help with this would be much appreciatted.

Thanks in advance.

Does this only happen with this specific MP4 file? What are the logs (go to "Tools >> Messages..." and raise "Verbosity Level" to 2, then open the MP4 file).

Also - try the latest RC build of VLC 1.0.0 (go to the "win32"/"maxosx" directories for Windows/Mac OS X builds, respectively):

Ok well after downloading the Newest VLC it is playing more i must say but it is still very jumpy and not clear at all. As for the messages i am getting:

in warning: late picture skipped (41152 > -5431)
main warning: late picture skipped (55009 > -5526)
main warning: late picture skipped (62975 > -5344)

Etc etc, is this just due to the fact that my computer is dated these days or ?

Could be that it is having trouble decoding fast enough (so could be related to CPU etc.). Is it HD H.264 video (such as x264)? If it is, try skipping the loop filter:
