How to configure VLC as streaming server

Postby digish_gabhawala » 23 May 2009 07:20

Hello,

currently I am using Darwin Streaming server for my streaming purpose where I announce streams and that can be relayed to any number of users.

But as DSS does not support mpeg2ts, I can not use it for IPTV.

I have heard that I can use VLC for streaming and transcoding purpose. So i can announce stream to VLC server and then it will transcode it to mpeg2ts stream and it can be streamed to IPTV via RTSP.

Is it possible?
How can i do it?
Please help!

Well it is quite easy.
Add the web interface of VLC. VLC>View>Add interface>Web interface.
Then go to this address : http://localhost:8080/vlm.html . This is the interface of VLC that can allow you to add multicast streams.
Go into broadcast. Add the channel name change the intput (the video you wan to stream), change the output (the parameters of you stream).
If you are using a set-up box to read the stream you may want use UDP stream.
If you go directly into the "other" tab you directly add a channel in command line like this :

Code: Select all

new channel3 broadcast enabled loop setup channel3 input "D:\servers\Stream_Files\SD\Aviator_SD_dvd.mpg" setup channel3 output #standard{access=udp,mux=ts,dst=225.141.11.3,name="Channel 3"} control channel3 play
