VLC 081 with Hauppauge PVR250 under XP - help PLEASE?

I have an AMD 1700+ with Win XP, and a Hauppauge PVR 250.

I cannot get VLC 0.8.1 to display live TV on my PC...
- best I can get is maybe 10 secs of choppy video and very choppy audio, then it just gets worse, and within 15 secs, a black screen.

I appreciate the documentation for Windows clients has improved greatly over the last two releases, but it still has gaps, especially with Hauppauge cards.

Is there ANYONE out there, who has got VLC working (reasonably) well under Windows?????

by the way, not obvious in my instructions is to select "DirectShow" after you open the Streaming Wizard and choose Step 1 Select what to stream.
