No DVD in OSX

Hi,
I'm using the OSX version of VLC on a G4 Powerbook. Everything outside of DVD playing is going well. For some reason, the program won't play any DVDs whether from my region (1) or any other region. I was told that all the modules for the OSX version were preloaded. If I'm wrong, what must be loaded and how can I go about loading them?
I'm not sure if this helps, but the program recognises audio CDs in the same drive.

Ok so I've been reading up on the module "libdvdcss." The way I understand it, the VLC player for OSX comes with everything already loaded. If I'm wrong, then I need to load this module and I'm not sure how to do that since I'm not to sure how modifying applications works in a mac. They've made this machine too damned easy to use!

Hi all, I think I am in the same boat. My PowerBook superdrive is zoned for region 4 and vlc can't play some of my region 1 dvds. What if I used an external zone 1 dvd drive connected thru the usb or firewire? Will that work?

I am using a G4 Powerbook, OSX 10.2.3, region 2 and VLC 0.7.0.
Is it possible that there is no problem to play some region 1 DVD's and other region 1 DVD's just don't work? Can somebody please explain that to me because regarding the quoting it should either work or work not at all...
Is there a solution for this problem. I found the following error message in the forum that matches mine:

I've encountered the same hiccup. I've set my Powerbook to region 1, but VLC won't play any other region DVDs. It worked fine prior to Panther and VLC 0.7.0. DJ could inform us as to what computers won't allow libdvdcss to work? The following is my attempt at playing "SOLARIS" region 2 commercial DVD. My log is as follows;

Yeah that last one is pretty easy:

USE OPEN DISC FROM THE FILE MENU

and read README files
The debug here clearly shows you were trying to play the mpg file on the disc, not the disc itself. This usually doesn't work on OSX.
