help!!

Postby 666dorado » 25 Apr 2009 09:54

hi, i'm new here. i've searched high and low and i can't find an answer.

i've downloaded some youtube (google cache) videos that i'm trying to view. most of them view fine in in mpeg streamclip (mac os x) or qt pro with perian as .flv files. all of them view fine on youtube. but a few of the files when saved to my desktop and viewed show no video track in QT or MPEG streamclip. VLC is the only program that can play them just fine.

the problem comes in exporting it, or i should say save/transcode. i've tried it every way possible, actually transcoding it and/or just changing the container.

once i rename the file and/or change the container to let's say .MOV, i play it in another player and the video track is missing. in QT pro, it doesn't recognize the video track (in the MOVIE PROPERTIES window it shows no time duration for the vid track, and under movie properties when it's playing, it just says ? for the vid track). audio is fine.

what is wrong with these .flv files that are coming from youtube/google, how is it that my web browser and vlc can play them, but i can't play them in QT after converting them? also, why is it that VLC can play them but can't export the video track during the save to file/transcode process?

the reason i'm doing this in QT is that i'm trying to edit them (paste several videos together). curiously enough, it's only 3 files out of 14 that i have this problem.

any clues anyone?

thanks in advance!!

Have you got an example (just post e.g. the YouTube link)?

Arite.
