Hi there,
I have a problem mit Matroska (mkv) files that contain SubRIP-subtitles (srt)
First, I'm not quite sure if srt in mkv is supported by VLC, but it kind of works, only with one problem:
The subtitles are shown too long, so they are not vanishing when they're over. The next subtitle is shown, but the old one remains, so you can't read anything.
VLC just shows both subtitles at the same position for some seconds.
I tried this with various video streams in the mkv, such as divx, xvid and some types of mpg-video. When playing exactly the same (!) subtitle from an external srt file everything works fine.
After I found nothing about SubRIP being supported within Matroska files (http://wiki.videolan.org/Matroska), but ssa being definitively supported, I tried using ssa files insted of srt files in the Matroska container, the subtitles were recognized, but not shown, so I could select these subtitles, but there was no sign of them in the video.
Has anybody an idea how I could use subtitles in mkv files? SSA and SRT are the only formats I can add to mkv files, but both of them do not work. Is this a bug in VLC? Or is it simply not supported? Is it planned to be supported in future releases?
Thank you for your help

PS: I tried this on the following versions:
VLC media player 0.9.9 (Grishenko), both on XP SP3 and Vista SP1
VLC media player portable 0.9.9 (Grishenko) on XP SP3
and the nightly VLC media player 0.9.10-git (Grishenko)
I also tried various files, so it is not dependent on specific media files
