How to switch off subtitles by default?

If I open a movie with embedded subtitles the default subtitle option is sometimes track 1, sometimes disabled. I guess the default track that gets picked is somehow encoded in the file. I want to always display no subtitles by default and instead pick a subtitle track if I need it, regardless what the default is for the file I load. Is that possible (without turning off subtitles altogether)?

Also something unrelated, where's the version changelog?
