Set default Audio Device to Stereo ?!?

Set default Audio Device to Stereo ?!?

Postby master256 » 10 Apr 2009 03:54

Hello,
my Problem is that VLC starts to Play Movies with the highest Channel Range available, e.g. if it is a AC3 divx it Plays in "2 Front 2 Rear" Mode
In most cases this may be a behaviour wich is right, but in my case there the following Problem:

I've connected a TV to my second Montor and i'm Watching Movies on my TV while i'm normally working on monitor 1
For the Sound i have connected my PC Speakers to the Front Connectors and my TV to the Rear connectors
(i tried several configurations, this one works)
Problem is now when vlc plays in "2 Front 2 Rear" Mode, i only hear the Rear Sounds on my TV,
which normally are background sounds
When i manually switch to "Stereo" i can hear the whole sound of the Movie on my TV
(same on PC Speakers, but i normally turn them of when whatching movies)

So far so good, but when VLC plays the next playlist file, which is AC3 too, it switches back to "2 Front 2 Rear" Mode

When i'm sitting in front of the PC and I'm working it is a fast click, but when i'm laying on couch it is annoying to go to the PC and switch the Audio Device each time, espacially when watching a series with e.g. only 20min lengh per episode...

I've tried many combinations of the audio options, some found here and at google too, but nothing is working out,
i hope there is someone out there who can help me out to make my beloved standard player get to Status "Perfect"

Thanks in advance

Ran into this myself tonight and figured out a workaround.

VLC for Windows: Tools> Preferences> Show Settings (All)> Audio> Force Detection Of Dolby Surround (Off)

This will set Stereo as the default setting.

Go to Control Panel-->Sounds and Audio-->Audio. Click on Advanced. Set to "Desktop Stereo."

VLC checks Windows Audio every time it starts and sets itself to that setting.

I have no idea why your 2x2 system plays no sound in the front.

If i disable the rear speakers as you say its impossible to hear anything on the rear speakers (which are the tv) 'cause they are disabled

I hoped that there was an option in VLC to run in the Stereo Mode by default,
the windows speaker configuration has to stay at is i think.

Yeah, I thought you already tried that. VLC has no way to change default audio that works. I've tried. I use GOM player when I use rear speakers.

Sorry for the fail.
