how can i play a file in windows?

how can i play a file in windows?

the file is a avi file,it codec is divx.
i downdload vlc0.8.0 source code.
I want to use command line to debug vlc.

Easiest thing is to download the current 081 release, for Windows, and just play it.

... you can also use the binary version to debug VLC, view debug-logs and use the command-line.

i am interested in making a media player.

now , i know window directshow run course,
i am interested in vlc run course,
i read vlc manual,then i learn vlc source code,
but i don't know comman line parame.

i use command line : vlc --long help -advanced,
but , i don't find command line parameter to play the avi file.
i want to get a command line sample to play avi file.

vlc.exe file.avi

not very hard really
