DTS Functionality or lack there off

Postby Editor » 24 Nov 2004 14:33

Hi Videolan,

I understand the reasoning behind the removal of DTS support in Videolan. However if this functionality does not return under the Videolan license structure, would it be possible for those that want DTS to pay "DTS.we want money.co.inc.ltd" a fee for their codec license?

Regards and thanks for a wonderful app!!

DTS - Reply from DTS inc

Postby Editor » 10 Dec 2004 05:03

Hi All,

I contacted DTS and they replied that they were not in discussion with Videolan regarding licensing and suggested they would be 'happy to refer you to one of our licensees for DVD playback software. All of them do offer PC OEM bundled packages.'

So no joy there it would appear. I know VLC uses it's own encoders etc, but in future versions could it be possible to provide a mechanism where an external decoder could be selected for the occasions when one wants DTS ?

Regards
