5.1 output in VLC, please advise

Postby jefknight » 20 Dec 2008 14:59

Hey All,

I'm a musician in Canada and perform a one-man-band show using backtracks that I've created in my recording studio.

What I'm hoping to find a media player for the backtrack files that will:

a) allow me to use 5.1 files and

b) allow me to assign the 5 main outputs to 5 separate outputs on my RME audio card from my notebook comp. This "assignable outputs" is the real crux of the biscuit.

The idea here is that Front L-R will be the bulk of the music and the other channels would contain bass, kick and snare, panned hard to the center, R-L and R-R and then outputted from the multiple outs of the RME card to the main mixer and panned/effected accordingly for a normal, stereo live mix. This will give my sound guy much more control.

So, will VLC allow me to do this?

Cheers and Happy Holidays
