Multiple preferences

Postby tatsudoshi » 15 Dec 2008 12:43

I was woundering if it is possible to have more then one setup for VLC? For instance have two shortcuts to VLC which tells it which pref setup to use or something along those lines.
The reason I need this is because I use VLC both as a media center player and local player on the same machine.
When it is set up as media player it of cause plays on my tv and audio system, so when I want to play files locally I have to change the setup which become rather annoying.
So how do I overcome this?

Thanks

Well seems I found it myself hehe so for anyone else how might want this here goes:

I thought the settings given via the cmd line would stick but they dont so no need for this really...
As local player with default audio device and monitor 1: --directx-audio-device=0 --directx-device="\\.\DISPLAY1" --vout="directx3d" --embedded-video

As media player (replace <N> with the number of your device): --directx-audio-device=<N> --directx-device="\\.\DISPLAY<N>" --vout="directx" --no-embedded-video --no-qt-fs-controller --fullscreen

Just make two shortcuts or what ever it is called on yor system and add these lines, on windows for instance: "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" <lines go here, after the "-sign>
If you dont know the number of your audio device just start with 1 and go up untill you hit the one you want. Usually there are 2-4 devices.
The directx options are only for vista with aero I think.

Good luck :)
