VLC 0.9.4: Playing .ts on OSX ok but not on Linux

Postby jiragh » 22 Nov 2008 09:10

Hi,

just wanted to switch my MacMini (MacOS X 10.5.2) to Ubuntu (8.10) and realized that the Ubuntu-VLC (0.9.4) is - in comparison to the MacOS-VLC (also 0.9.4!) - not able to play .ts files (*) recorded by a Dreambox DM-600 DVB-S receiver (technical details) . The Ubuntu-VLC was installed straight-forward while in a Live-CD-session - i.e.: Synaptic -> checked all repositories -> reloaded -> searched for "vlc" -> installed "vlc"

Any hints on how VLC is able to play these files on MacOS X but not on Linux?

(*)

Code: Select all

$ file my-video.ts my-video.ts: MPEG sequence, v2, program multiplex

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

Is your file located on a HFS+ drive?

so what's the point? Ubuntu is capable of reading HFS+ partitions.

Well, see the problem on the linux forum. VLC see that as folder, not as file. Try to force file://
