Capabilities of Simple RTP Input

Postby alex.bethke » 13 Nov 2008 11:21

Hello VideoLAN team,

the VLC features list briefly mentions the capabilities of the "Simple RTP Input" as "MPEG A/V, G.711 and PCM support". My question is, what MPEG A/V formats are exactly supported.
And following: Is it possible to use that input method to receive RTP streams from a device? The data is coded in MPEG-4 Part 2 / AAC-LC, no multiplexing, on separate ports. Or would it be required to specify the input formats in an sdp file (which spawns some :?: :?: :?: for me, regarding the generation of some of the parameters)?

Regards and thanks for the great project,

Alex

MPEG 1&2 video and audio. MPEG4 is impossible: some extra infos needs to be conveyed out-of-band, normally via SDP.

Simple refers to not needing an SDP here.

Right, thanks. Good to know that its not necessary to try with that one.
I gonna look into creating an sdp-by hand...

Regards, Alex
