Transcoding Newbie Question... how to ?

Postby raveya » 13 Oct 2008 17:43

Hello, I'm really new to transcoding and I cannot figure out how to start.
I saw some tutorials on the web, using VLC via the wizard - and here starts the problem. I use the newest version of VLC and can't find the wizard function ( I tried it with strg+w but this didn't look like the wizard I've seen on some youtube guides).

Also tried the .bat with
"c:\vlc\vlc" -vvv %1 --sout-ffmpeg-qscale 1 :sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,scale=1,acodec=wma,ab=96,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=asf,dst=%1.wmv}}
Searched the forums and found some .bat solutions, even with the right paths it didn't work... - thats why I gonna need your help now :)

I tried this here http://wiki.videolan.org/Transcode , but as mentioned I can't find any option for transcode :(

So how can I just get the wizard to help me with this?
All I want to do is, converting a .avi file (.mpeg files). into .wmv - but as I said, I can't find the option menu therefore. Not over the network or so - just get a new file.

Or is there any new tutorial for the newest VLC version how to bring up the Wizard for transcoding ? ;)

Would be really cool to help me how to setup, or atleast how to start the wizard for transcoding.

:option should immediately follow the "input" that it applies to. (so %1) in this case. Otherwise it will never work.

--options are global
:options are input specific.

well, I tried the conversion , when I open the file (it's a .mpeg2) and I try to save it as a .wmv file, VLC minimizes and nothing happens....

Which version came with the wizard (strg+w hotkey) ? Or should I use an older version instead the new one ?

All I want to do is just convert some movies into .wmv :/
