How to use VLC to extract a certain part of a DVD?

Postby berane » 01 Oct 2008 23:13

Hi!

I'm working with a photoshow and want to include a videofile (short, ca 2 min) from a DVD (a home video to which I have legal rights - Video_TS folder).

Having used VLC for a very long time as a media player I believe I can use VLC to extract the part from the DVD I want to include in my show. However, since I´m a newbie in this field I don´t know how-to-do-it. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi,

I would use HandBrake (www.handbrake.fr) to encode the Video_TS folder to an MP4 file. You could then load this up in a movie editing program and extract what video you need. You can extract video from a DVD in VLC but in my experience it is not very precise - chances are you would need to edit the resulting footage anyway.
