Opening avi in a new vlc window

Its a bit hard to explain so please bare with me.

Is it possible to open a new avi file (by double clicking on it) in a new vlc window instead of the current vlc window thats already playing another avi file? So the new avi file doesn't start in the vlc window thats already open.

I hope thats understandable.

I know its a rather weird question, but i was just wondering if its possible in vlc, since vlc is the only movie / dvd program i use.

Edit the file association, and remove the --one-instance parameter from the command.

Sorry for the double post but where can i find the file association in the new vlc player? (0.9.2)

Go to Tools>Preferences>Tick the box saying "Allow Only One Instance"
