mpeg4 encoding/decoding using vlc

hi,
I have a doubt , can anybody help me with it?
If I send a mpeg4 stream (transcoded/encoded using vlc player) from a pc ,can i decode it using any hardware decoder (for mpeg4 obviously)on the receiver end or is it neccessary to use vlc only to decode it on the other end.
Any help will be highly appreciated

Any hardware decoder should work (as long as the corresponding software knows how to read udp/ts or something standard like that)
