VLC streaming question

Hi, i have to develop a system for our survailance cameras, we have 8 appro cameras that i need to broadcast to a web page.

now the details :
i was thinking of using vlc as a server and then connect to it witn an embedded player in my web page.

i've been trying to get anything connected to vlc... used the tutorial found here :

but nothing. i get the stream from the cameras, but i can't get anything connected to the vlc server. also, using that example the camera stream got cut whenever i tried to connect to the machine... do you have any ideas what i should do / look for / anything ?

edit : i use 0.8.6a , used 0.8.6.i Janus but i couldn't get anything from the cameras
