Media information is not streamed

Postby nfogel » 09 Aug 2008 00:20

I am using VLC to stream MP3 audio over HTTP.
I noticed that no media information is sent with the stream (although the original MP3 file has all the ID3 tags set).

I there a way to stream the media info?

ID3 tags are stored at the end of an MP3 file. It is hence impossible to stream them.

This is actually not completely accurate. ID3V1 tags were stored at the of the MP3 file but the more populat these days ID3V2 are stored at the beginning of the file specifically to enable streaming of data (source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id3).

Anyway, regardless of this. I need to be able to receive some metadata at the player side. I don't mind using other music formats as long as they are streamable by VLC and of course playable by VLC. Does anyone know how I can get VLC to stream any part of the streamed file metadata?
