Snapshot feature in VLC 0.8.6i does not work

Note: VLC for the Mac OSX 10.4.11

Addendum: the snapshot feature on VLC 0.9.2 now functions OK.
To restore the snapshot function:
1 - download the latest VLC 0.9.2
2 - before installing VLC click on the "Restore Defaults" icon and click on OK when prompted.
3 - Install VLC
4 - the snapshot function now works.

To switch between PNG and JPG format
1 - Go to the Preferences
2 - Click on Video at top
3 - You can change Format from this menu.


Earlier versions of VLC for the Mac would allow me to take a snapshot of the screen.
I chose *.PNG as the file extension.
Newer versions of VLC returned an error when I try to save a screen:
