Converting files to play on TiVo

Postby ShadowMagus » 01 Aug 2008 08:58

I know, people normally want to convert files to play on something else from the TiVo format, but I recently heard you can play Mpeg2 files from your computer on your TiVo, and I wanted to do it. The problem is, a lot of the stuff I want to play is .avi or .mkv, or similar. So, how do I convert to Mpeg2? I've already found the wizard under the File menu, and I know how to select my files and stuff, I just don't know what to select to Transcode to. There are a few different options, and I don't know what they all mean. First there's the video and audio streams, and those have MPEG-2 Video and MPEG audio, so it seems pretty obvious what I should choose there. The problem comes in the next screen, encapsulation. What do I pick? I have RAW, OGG, MPEG 1, MPEG TS, and MPEG PS. I've been trying to play with them, but when I play them back after converting, I usually have audio but no video. What am I doing wrong?
