Hardware decoding?

Postby downhiller » 29 Jul 2008 17:21

I'm not particularly au fait with video codecs etc, so I apologise for the vagueness of this post.

How do I know when I'm playing a file with VLC whether it's using the full capabilities of my GFX card to play it? (512MB Sapphire 8800GT).

And if it's not using it, is there anything I can change/configure to help it along?

At the moment playing HD files is taking about 70-90% of my CPU (about 50% if I skip the loop filter thing for FFmpeg, whatever that means). I'm sure this should be much lower shouldn't it?

(Intel c2d @ 3ghz, 4gb ram, vista64, watching full-screen on one of two 1680x1050 displays.)

cheers :)
