Vlc stops running.

Vlc just stops running after a while, as in, I can press/do anything (pausing etc), but nothing happens. After like 20 seconds it starts running again. And when I close it down it's still running in the task manager, and when I close it in task manager it doesn't work, it takes like 1 minute for it close. Been running VLC perfectly fine before, this happened after I installed Windows Vista with sp1. Also, I've tried reinstalling/resetting nothing works.
