Help Needed! Audio but no Video with VLC

Postby MoadDib » 04 Jul 2008 14:32

I'm having a very strange problem with my VLC player.

Just today, it stopped showing video. When a video file is loaded, it will play the audio for it but only show a black window where the video should be. Video files play just fine in Windows Media Player and other programs. This seems to only be happening in VLC.

I have updated, re-installed VLC and all video codecs, cleared preferences and cache, and generally done everything I can think of to deal with this problem but the issue still persists.

If anyone has any ideas or has encountered this problem themselves please offer any help you can.

Disable the video overlay from the preferences panel. Video will be slow(er) though.

Thanks, that seems to have solved the big problem.

Now for some reason, it simply will not show a video window for a couple of video files. This is of course much better than just getting a giant black video window on ALL files, but any ideas what might be causing this to happen to just a few videos?

I am having the same problem. I can play some mp4 files but not others. the only diference I can find is if you go into view >> Stream and Media Info >> Advanced information tab and look at the Stream info, the ones that play have video(mp4v codec) as stream 0 and audio(mp4a codec) as stream 1 and with the ones that dont play the streams are the other way around.

But I did manage to make it show up by going to Settings >> Extended GUI and then under Video tab click Enable

Hope this helps!
