VLC doesn't play audio

Hi,

I am new to VLC player and just built the VLC player on a linux machine. I can play video files, but could not play audio files. It stopped at following last line. Appreciate any help.

$ ./vlc file:///home/project/work/AudioFile/14_obe_succubus_lp.m4a
VLC media player 0.8.6h Janus
