When transcoding to MPEG2 I lose time lenght information

Postby juancgallardo » 16 Oct 2007 20:53

Hello

As the topic says, when I transcode from any format to MPEG2 my video doesn't have the time duration information anymore.

I have test transcoding from wmv and mpeg1, mpeg2, tp mpeg2 and it happens all the time.

I have tried to trasncode to another format: mpeg1, mpeg4, wmv, and the new video keeps the time information correctly.

Did I hit a bug or am I missing something?

Thanks

I'm seeing the same symptom here.
I transcoded videos from my mpeg2 camera (program stream VBR) using the mainconcept encoder.
The result of my transcode is "transport stream CBR".

If I play the original file I see time information (the length in minutes and seconds of the movie and where I am in it).
If I play the transcoded file (transport stream TS) then I don't see time information.

I did some further tests:
if I convert my "Transport Stream CBR" file to "Program Stream CBR" using VLC it displays time correctly on the resulting file.

So it looks like VLC does not support displyaing the time on Transport Stream encapsulation.

What do the gurus think?
