not smooth when use vlc play video on windows xp

Postby monsterrast » 19 Aug 2004 01:28

I have been using vlc for a while, I really like this player. Normally I use vlc to receive streaming data and play it.
One thing has kept bothering me is the jerk problem. When I use vlc to play mpeg2 or mpeg4 video, the video is not smooth. Originally I thought it's the network problem. Then I record the streaming data to a file and play it with windows media player, the video showing smoothly, but when i play it with vlc, the video is jerking.
So something wrong with vlc to play mpeg2 or mpeg4 video not smoothly, does anyone experience this before? And how to adjust the vlc to make video more smooth?

Any advice would be great for me.

windows xp and 0.7.2

when streaming out video from an mpeg file the windows xp playback is sticky with both 0.7.2 and 0.6.2. Under windows 2000 though the 0.6.2 doesn't have the sticky problem but the 0.7.2 is still sticky under windows 2000.

I'm using WinXP and VLC media player 0.7.2. Most of the time my playback is smooth (DivX, Xvid). But there will be a few split second skips and pops in the sound (maybe the video too much too small to notice). It's sorta like the choppiness that happens when realplayer or WMP opens and first loads a file so I'm guessing it's probably just high CPU usage.

So far this player is doing great, I don't mind the occasional skips in the sound. There was this OGM file that would crash WMP whenever I turn on the subtitles. Realplayer didn't help since it couldn't play OGM. So I uninstalled all my codec and while looking for latest codec versions I found VLC, so I just installed it without installing any codec and it works for the OGM file. I was so happy :). VLC player loads just as fast as WMP and is as stable as Realplayer. But it would be the best ever if it can playback without the little skips. My machine is a 1 GHZ Athlon.

playing mpeg2 or mpeg4 video jerk

Postby monsterrast » 19 Aug 2004 21:36

I have changed to fast cpu, but it still gave me jerk problem. I even changed to good video card, it doesn't help. It must be some configuration with VLC player itself. Because i played the same file with WMP, it does not have same problem.
