Updates

Postby Stans133 » 25 Jun 2007 15:44

I was basically wondering about getting updates.
I downloaded VLC at the end of last year (I think) and there have probably been updates made, but there is no update menu on the mane page.

And thank you to all the people at VLC for this great player.

Just install a new version. It will automatically clean the ancient installation and install the new one :D

VideoLAN.org? Well anyway, you could also go to the "HELP" in VLC tool bar to update to the latest official release of VLC media player.

I think he means that the software can't check for updates, you have to visit the website yourself.

It’s all done!
Thanks for your help.
Since I am here, if I could say that VLC would be even better if it was as easy to use as the windows media player or real player.

Thanks again for all your hard work.

Considering the options (things VLC can do) it is doubtful VLC will ever be easy to use. As with anything new to a user there is a learning curve. In general, the most difficult thing to grasp n VLC is an understanding of Formats and Containers.

So maybe we should offer some preset preferences of Containers and Formats...

I don't believe changing the default is going to teach the end user anything. :P

You may want to have a discussion with The DJ as the default is to copy formats to a MPEG TS container which most of the time VLC will play but nothing else will,

Is there any basic tutorials on the forum re: Formats & Containers?

I followed the doom9 forums for a long time and asked questions where necessary. Most all standard encoders and decoders are discussed there. But I have been encoding for a long time and already understood what standard formats and containers work with each other.
