Cant play .AVI files, please help.

Postby Exsoul » 15 Jun 2007 01:28

Ok so last night windows did a automatic update on my computer, and now i cant play .avi files in any player.

I have tried rebooting, reinstalling codec drivers, (k-lite codec pack & nimo codec pack). Also i have the newest version of VLC player ofc.

I can get sound in VLC but no image. This is the same for all my avi files, and some mpg files and wmv files. But most wmv files will play.

Here is the last part of the VLC message error feed:

Try doing a DirectX Diagnostic.

BTW All the codec packs in the world will not effect VLC.

I fixed this problem. Removed all safety updates/hotfixes applied that night and the problem went away.

I think it might have had something to do with me having a cracked version of windows xp sp2, and in one of the updates i read something about directx validation blabla.

Dunno, however if someone gets the same problem, this is a solution that works! :D

Go to Windows update service to see what updates were installed. Then open your add/remove programs and uninstall them one by one until you find the one that gives you problem. Then go back to Windows update service and set the one that gives you the problem as not wanted and install the rest. Done!
