Trouble With the menus on all vlcs (mac os x 10.2)

Postby zloki » 27 Jul 2004 02:36

I have been using VLC for about a year now, and have had no big problems until this morning. The pulldown menus have ceased to function (when I click on any of the menus VLC stalls and I have to force quit, even before I open a file). I am running OS X 10.2 on a dual 1.25 G4 512mb ram.

I have tried using VLC 5.3, 6.2, 7.1a, and 7.2. The file I am trying to open is an MKV file, which originally wouldn't run until I installed some ogg codec into the Library/Quicktime folder. The weird thing is earlier in the day I ran 10 or 12 files with no problems. I have restarted, shutdown, closed, and reopened nothing does the trick.

If any one knows what to do in this instance please post.

In addition...

I am considering installing os x 10.3 so that I can fix this problem but am unsure if even that will help... any ideas?

(it's been a whole day without VLC and I'm starting to lose my mind)

You should try whether deleting the preferences files helps. You can find them in Library -> Preferences in your private user directory.
Installing Panther probably won't help, since VLC works nicely under 10.2.

Nice coffee post btw. What don't you just make yourself a cup full of espresso? That's one of my favourites (in 0,1l cup of course). :)

I use esspresso on a regular basis, but that trick eliminates the need. Deleting the prefs didn't work btw. thanks though.

Try deleting VLC's org.videolan.vlc.plist preference file as well. It only contains the windowpositions, and the recent items list, but especially those last could be a problem in earlier OSX version if i remember.
