This concern MacOS X/ Linux/ Unix/ Windows 9x-VIsta users.

Do you prefer that your scrolling with your mouse change:
- Volume up and down ?
- Seeking in the video in the future / in the past ?

You already know my answer. I prefere that the mouse control more of what the video does, therfore:

Mouse wheel = seeking in the future / past.

Many times, I accidentally move the mouse wheel, so I wouldn't want to get to almost the end of the movie unintentionally and then try to find where I was watching.

seek video ofcourse... its the only reason I feel uncomfortable watching movies.... besides, in this case a wireless m,ouse can act as a remorte control, just a scrol to go back and forth in movies...... and perhaps left ckick can be used to pause/play the video/audio(middle clik???)

how about borrowing mplayer's keyboard interface? and hotkeys for things like snapshot(s), etc.

There are already all the actions with the hotkeys in VLC for a long time.

There's no box at the top for you to choose the different options? Maybe the thread creator (j-b) made it to run only for a few days, in that case there's no way to submit anymore votes unless he decides to reopen it.

I know, but we're still losing. There's hardly any reason to control the volume through the mouse. Most times you'll find a comfortable volume and it just seems fine being controlled though the keyboard, but controlling the seek though the mouse is something people will use more often. Anyone agree?

How about:

- Volume with scroll
- Seeking with holding the middle mouse button while scrolling

This allows both things to be possible, while making it a bit harder to seek (which you don't want to do accidentally)

That idea's not so bad, but I really hate to have to use the middle mouse button!!!

Here's the best option: allow the user to choose which function they want to use in the preferences menu, much like users get to choose which hotkeys to assign to a function

For most people the scroll wheel is the middle mouse button, so this makes sense...

Doesn't matter now, it seems my previous comment took. I just tested the latest nightly build and it will work under Hotkeys settings. Now the user can choose to map it to seek, volume or whatever they want. Nice huh?

My middle finger told me that he has absolutely no intention to scroll with this --please stay polite-- mouse wheel through movies.

Your fingers talk to you too, you hear that you guys we're not alone. Well Like I said in my previous post this isn't an issue anymore because you can now set the mouse wheel to whatever you want in the hotkey settings (volume or seek or }.

What happen to being able to control the seek with the mouse wheel when set in the hotkey settings? A few nightly builds ago it was working perfectly for me, now all of the sudden it's insistent on controlling the volume. Can it please be turned back to the way it was, where I could choose whether I want the mouse wheel to control the seek or the volume? Thanks.
