Is VideoLAN a Registered Non-Profit?

Hi VideoLAN,

I'm prepared to make a contribution to your projects, but in the United States (USA) I can deduct the contribution (income tax deduction) ONLY if VideoLAN is a registered Non-Profit or Charity. I searched our IRS (Internal Revenue Service) Publication, "Publication 78, Cumulative List of Organizations described in Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, is a list of organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions. This on-line version is offered to help you conduct a more efficient search of these organizations." However, I could not find an entry for VideoLAN.

It is also stated that, "In addition, you may verify an organization's tax-exempt status and eligibility to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions by asking to see an organization's IRS letter recognizing it as tax-exempt. You may also confirm an organization's status by calling the IRS (toll-free) at 1-877-829-5500.

So at this point my question to you is: Does VideoLAN have a tax-exemption IRS letter?

If VideoLAN is registered with the USA IRS, I will include my projected income tax savings with my PayPal contribution. If not, my contribution will be a bit smaller.

Kind regards,
RetiredEngineer

Unfortunately, VideoLAN is a French non-profit organization, and therefore cannot register for "tax-exemption IRS" in the USA.

That's OK. Being in the holiday spirit, I sent you a contribution anyway.

Happy Holidays,
