Helping Hand (?) - Volunteer

Hi,

Not really sure as to what to write in the Subject. I hope, I sent the correct message.

I read on the main website that the team is looking for a Windows developer... I have quite-a-bit of expertise on Win32 - I still don't have a Vista (somehow, I still love to hate it)... so, anything on Win2k / WinXP is fine.

Also, in one the previous postings, I got a hint about Windows Integration issues... I would be more than happy to help out, as much as is in my capacity.

The best way out it coordinate over mail as to what all I can do and if that matches the requirements..

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your quick response.

I was unable to browse to the Wiki page (Mini_Projects). The server didn't response... I would be interested to know what are the places where I can be of help.

Hopefully if things go well they'll make you official (Orange color i.e. developer). 8)

If only CloudStalker were smart enough... don't get him wrong, he's brilliant! just not brilliant enough to be a developer yet. :P

Hey master,

The wiki is up, and you can contact me.

Compile VLC first and tell us what you would love to work on and I'll tell you ideas... :D

Hi Jean,
Hey master,
You can call me Gaurav ;)
Compile VLC first and tell us what you would love to work on and I'll tell you ideas... :D
Ok... working on cygwin. compiling modplay right now :)

Regarding what would be my areas of interest... well, I'm not a hard-core DSP guy (though my major was EE) - so, filters or codecs are ruled out for now. :D
Anything on Windows UI would probably be a better place for me start off..

Not sure if RTSP implementation is in your agenda (again, I also don't know the efforts that may be required in this :?: ).

AFAIK, RTSP is already supported (client with live555, server with vlc code).

UI is Qt4/C++

My apologies... what I meant was RTCP (Control Protocol). I got it from http://wiki.videolan.org/Mini_Projects :)
Adding SRTCP should be easy, once RCTP is implemented.

At the moment, I have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_time_control_protocol open and it has a brief paragraph on "Problems and potential further development of RTCP". And then would be looking into RFC-3550 :D

And hey, I just hit a pit. libavcodec (ffmpeg) does not compile on my cygwin. Got the code from svn. "configure" works fine. "make" says, very interstingly - "make: *** virtual memory exhausted. Stop."

Hi Jean,

Still awaiting response on how to compile...
I tried the "contrib-....bz2" file route but that also did not succeed.

Any clues?

I think there's a typo error in the Wiki Page http://wiki.videolan.org/Win32CompileCygwinNew

Section: Get the Win32 "contrib" package
What is written: Those days, you should use
What it should be: These days, you should use

Because reading "those", I downloaded the contrib from download.videolang.org website (there is no 0811 here) rather than from people.videolan.org site (yes, here I can find the 0811 contrib)..

Hi Gaurav and everyone else.

Now that you seem to have looked into the "status" of the Windows development, I would love to know what help is needed.
As I am using the VLC now more and more, I figured I might contribute a bit. :-)
